In 1995 New Zealand won the America’s Cup in San Diego by a staggering five: nil. Leading the team was Kiwi legend Peter Blake. Before Team New Zealand could qualify for the America’s Cup challenge it had to first beat all comers in the Louis Vuitton series.

Somehow I just "knew" we were going to win the America's Cup even before we had won the Louis Vuitton challenge. Knowing too that it was going to go down in history as one of New Zealand's greatest sporting moments, I was inspired to paint the Black Boat and so procured the appropriate licence to do an official portrait, to release as a limited edition commemorating the occasion. This was a fortunate move, because several artists applied for a licence after the fact of us winning the cup, so my painting was the only officially licenced fine art portrait of Black Magic.

“Magic moment”
Presenting number 1 of the edition to Team New Zealand leader, Sir Peter Blake

Originally this edition was available only for a limited time due to licencing restrictions and had to be withdrawn before it had sold out. Now, coincident with of the opening of "Blue Water Black Magic - A Tribute To Sir Peter Blake", at Voyager, the National Maritime Museum, I am very pleased to announce that I have been granted permission by Emirates Team New Zealand to release the remaining prints.
