he third in a series of four paintings of New Zealand gamefish, "Broadie Dawn" is a study of a broadbill dancing in the early morning light.

Setting the scene is one of the most historically famous of all New Zealand gamefishing boats, the "Lady Doreen".
Snooks Fuller, the original owner of "Lady Doreen", helped a great deal with the information and background material for the painting. To assist with getting the study of the forty-two foot, kauri hull "flying bridge" correct, he kindly lent me original photos and patiently gave me the answers I needed to many questions.

Snooks was in fact the first fisherman in the Bay of Islands to catch a broadbill since Zane Grey, some thirty-eight years earlier.

Most fishermen targeting broadbill these days go after them at night for better results, but in those early days the first three or so ever caught by Snooks were actually hooked and landed in broad daylight and not very far off shore either.

"Broadie Dawn" is a watercolour painting reproduced as a limited edition of 500 prints using light resistant inks on archival quality paper. Each print is individually numbered and signed.  Completing the presentation is a a charcoal blue-black timber frame, with glass and an off-white double mat-board.
