hose who have enjoyed the rare privilege of stepping inside Scott's hut
often remark that it's like Scott and his men have just left.
This painting not only intricately records the hut as it appears today
with all its fascinating artifacts, but also captures the feeling one gets
from actually being there.
Featured in the centre of the painting is the wardroom table which was the
focal point of life in the hut. To the right are bunks
and at
the far end of the room are Ponting's darkroom and the laboratory.
The title of the painting of course refers to Oates's famous statement,
found recorded in Scott's diary, when he chose to sacrifice his life in
the hopes that his colleagues might escape their blizzard bound tent and
make it back home.

This painting was specially commissioned by the Antarctic Heritage
Trust to create a greater awareness of this famous site.
Fifty dollars from the proceeds of the sale of each print
in the edition is donated to the Trust.
The painting has been reproduced with light resistant inks on archival
